SOUNDS OF SILENCE (American Sign Language Series)

Radiant Hall, McKees Rocks, PA

Opening reception: June 28, 2023

Gallery hours: June 30 through July 21, 2023

Thanks to receiving an Arts Revival grant through the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council and funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, this project has allowed me to concentrate on a different type of work combining sign language with abstract art. My target audience is members of the hearing community, specifically those interested in learning more about sign language or looking for another way to communicate with more positivity. My goal was to relay more compassion and spark conversation. Each piece of art in the project calls attention to a sign that expresses positivity, caring, connection, or listening--even if it’s without using your ears. Silence can speak volumes, which is why I titled this project “Sounds of Silence.”
